Flights: Never do this with luggage – top tips to keep baggage safe on your holidays
FLIGHTS see plane passengers take luggage away with them no matter which airline they fly with or where they are heading. There’s one mistake travellers should never make when it comes to baggage – an expert has revealed. Flights can mark the start of an exciting holiday filled with plenty of fun and relaxation. Your luggage plays a huge part in the journey as it contains everything you’ll want for the trip. Consequently, it’s vital baggage stays safe and accompanies you there and back in one piece.
An expert has revealed one big mistake travellers should never make when it comes to luggage.
Anna Sant, travel insurance expert at MoneySuperMarket explained the importance of safeguarding valuables.
She explained that passengers should avoid putting valuables in hold luggage.
“Look after your high-value items: always carry them with you, for example in your hand luggage
You should also be very careful to keep an eye on your bags and valuables at all times.
“Do not leave your bags unattended,” stated the expert. “Better still, if you can, leave them at home.”
There are a number of other hand ways to keep your luggage protected during a holiday away.
One option is to use a padlock on your suitcase as this will help discourage opportunistic thieves.
Another tip is to use a colourful luggage strap. “This makes your bag easier to identify, and more difficult for other people to open it,” explained MoneySuperMarket.
Should anything go wrong with your luggage you want to make sure it’s easy for it to be returned to you.
Therefore it’s wise to consider carefully labelling all your bags – add your name, address and mobile contact number.
For further peace of mind regarding baggage, try taking a savvy approach to packing.
If you’re travelling with someone else, why not split your clothes between the two suitcases?
That way you have at least some things to wear if your bag goes missing.
Of course, travel insurance is the best protection when taking holidays.
Sant commented: “As soon as you book your holiday – even if it’s within your own country – it’s important that you take out insurance to ensure you and your possessions are protected.
“When taking out a policy, pay close attention to the baggage cover, which will cover you if your baggage is lost, damaged or stolen while you’re travelling.
“Some insurers only cover up to 1,000 dollars worth of items, so it’s worth checking that you have the right level of cover for your needs.
“Keep belongings close and in sight, and avoid leaving your luggage unattended at all times.
“If you do leave your luggage unattended, this could void the terms of your policy and you may not receive a payout in the event of a claim.”Tags: Airline Insolvency Insurance, Family Travel Insurance
